AUNZ blog hop

S1604 Life In Pictures available from your consultant this month only.

I love taking pictures don’t you? Our stamp of the month Life In Pictures is the perfect addition to a scrapbooker’s collection of embellishments for pages. It is important to tell the story that matters to you!

I recently completed this page to share with you. I have used some pieces from the Charlotte paper collection, some pages from My Crush Everyday Life pages and our lovely Black Overlay PML cards to design the page and really focus on the story in pictures. I have decorated with The Stamp of the Month Life in Pictures, the Charlotte Compliments and triangles make up the bling from the Black Fundamentals Assortment.

Life In Pictures Layout

April Stamp of the Month S1604 Life In Pictures Layout

This page really represents the essence of scrapbooking for me – the importance of capturing a moment that has a great personal significance and spending some time to show through my decoration that while it may not be startling for someone else at that moment in time I was in a pretty special place. Pages either side of this in my album will cover where I am exactly, (at Xcaret evening show in Mexico, the climax IMO of my trip to Mexico) but this layout shows I did treat myself to a little first class service for the first time on the trip and I am very glad I did!

Clustered stamps, paper strips, my crush pages and clear overlay with black lines all come together

Clustered stamps, paper strips, my crush pages and clear overlay with black lines all come together

From a layout perspective I am showing here we can capture the essence of our photos through embellishments from many sources. I have mixed and matched papers, card stock, PML cards, Stamps and Bling, all listed below. I stamped the images in Black and coloured with a little Desert Sand Watercolour Pencil to emphasis the shadows a bit. I did fussy cut them and the mounted them to black and almost fussy cut them a second time which has given them that extra dimension.  I hope you enjoy!

You can easily achieve the background paper. I cut White daisy at 4 x 5 1/4. I inked the NEGATIVE side of the Damask embossing folder with Bamboo ink. I laid the white cardstock on it and ran it through the Cuttlebug.

Ink the raised embossed edge

I then used the actual Bamboo Ink Pad to ink a much darker value of the same colour onto the raised damask pattern.

I made the strip of Gold Polka Dot by attaching it to strips of Bamboo cardstock.
I stamped the Frame and For You Sentiment with Versamark ink and embossed with Gold embossing poweders. I cut this and mounted it to Cocoa cardstock.

Make a pile at once!

I made the card based from a 4 1/2 x 11 inch piece of Cocoa card stock. I have made some use of Cocoa fundamentals in my greetings:)
I have added some ribbon from my stash to add that finishing touch.
I hope you have enjoyed this card and will give these techniques a try! I can’t wait to share this in my classes. The ‘how to’ for the braided card can be found over on You tube right here I forgot to cut away the first piece and add it to the gap at the top but they worked out ok with the dual sides and using scraps for the coordinating sentiments. For the sentiments I simply stamped in the matching ink colour to coordinate with the Fundamentals paper. I have embellished these cards with a variety of leftover coordinating bits some of which are are unfortunately NLA. You are sure to find something appropriate in your stash and in our While Stocks Last section of our online stores. Don’t forget August is also the LAST MONTH of the current Idea Book. Ask us about what you need from it before it is gone forever!

This exclusive Framed  Stamp Set stamp is only available during Month of August. It can be yours for just $5 with a qualifying order of $75 or for $29.00 if ordered separately from your CTMH consultant.   If you do not have a consultant please contact me or place an order at The Creative Heart

July SOTM Life is wonderful with Chalk It Up and Coloured Chalk Technique

To Make my elements featuring the stamp of the month I have first stamped them in White Pigment ink. I then heat set this to make sure it was all very dry. DRY Colour the white with selected colours for our Water Colour Pencil collection. This is really important. If you use wet techniques you will reactivate the with pigment ink and not end up with the desired result. Just colour in. Because we have stamped whit on Black it won’t matter if you cannot stay in the lines, but a good sharp pencil will help!

SOTM July S1507 Life is Wonderful FREE with stamp purchases of $32.50 in July.

I have scraplifted this page and shared it with my weekly class group. I had the photo printed at 5 x 7 (8 x 10 can be too big). Slice it into 1 inch strips. If you wish to avoid a face start either side of the face, knowing you may leave off the two odd sized end pieces. This technique generally works super well with scenic photos but I did manage to make it work with this shot of me and my students did get good results with people photos too.

Keep Strips In Order

Use your Versamat or other grid and start placing strips from the centre. I used the Ruler and allowed 1/4 inch between strips. We found some look better with just 1/8 inch in the gap. The CTMH Ruler Z1471  was very useful for this process and helped keep things straight.

Versamat and ruler

  • All stamping is done using black ink.
  • Stamp the square on a piece of Kraft Card stock for your journalling.Your story matters.

  • Use a fine line Back pen to add faux stitching.

International SOTM Blog Hop Icecream Dreams

JuneBadge

Hello and welcome to our international Icecream Dreams S1506 blog hop! There are 50 of us and if you started at the beginning congratulations you have made it right to the end!  If you have arrived here from  CTMH sister Jaime Llewellyn you are in the right place. A full list of bloggers is available at Melinda’s Blog just in case you missed some along the way.

How cute is this dog? Can you hear this Ice Cream van?

I have done a fun and colourful piece of artwork for a single page layout. It is currently in my Calendar Z1030 (hence the wire binding at the bottom) and given June is WINTER where I live I can only dream of desiring icecream! However these colours sure will brighten my days and I can’t  wait to get a photo of my Grandson with his lips around an icecream for the photo to make the page layout complete.

I first created this page to teach my students how to use emboss resist techniques with White embossing powder Z2068, and our sponge z697 (I love the range of things we can do with a $2 sponge!) and inks. It is a super easy technique to do and I will describe that below. I have also coloured with our watercolour pencils. I prefer these to our pens. (It is the painter in me!)

First random stamp the icecream images over 4 inches at the right side of the page with Versamark ink Z891. Then sprinkle on your white ebmossing powder and heat set with a heat gun. Do the same with the icecream van on scrap white cardstock.

20150527_211428

Now open up your Canary, Sorbet, Glacier and Sunset inks and using our round sponge scrape over each one one at a time and rub the colour into the page. Turn the sponge as you change colours and do not be afraid to blend them together on the page. You end up with some really nice colour combinations. The white embossing should be showing through nicely. There is no reason you could not do this technique for your whole background, or apply it to a whole piece of 12  x 12 White cardstock to then use half and half with coordinating cardstock over a double page spread. If you do please let me know and share it here!

For the van apply water colour pencil in colours that coordinate to your liking. Then with a damp paintbrush smooth those watercolours out. The colour will be richer and more vibrant. Fussy cut this out ready to add to the page.

20150527_211518

For the ‘You can’t buy happiness’ sign and the dog I have used Black ink to stamp the outlines. ( I personally find bleeding an issue regardless of the ink as our Whit cardstock is unsealed and very absorbent. The trick is not to let it get too wet.) Once again I have added colour with watercolour pencils. On the photo mat I used black ink for the title. Every stamp on this SOTM sheet has been used in this project. I have used a piece or 12 x 8 Sweet Leaf cardstock and a 7 x 5 piece of Kraft for the photo mount. The sign is mounted on Sunset cardstock. I finished it off with some Orange chevron washi and the new Carnival Washi Pack

I hope you enjoy this page and will give emboss resist a go. It really is fun and you can use all kinds of colours to great effect. Icecream Dreams S1506 is available to Australian purchasers in June Only for $27 or  just $5 with every $75 purchase. Please be sure to check with your consultant to order yours or jump online here and be part of my monthly virtual club and order yours sent direct to your door.

Icecream Dreams SOTM Australasia Blog Hop

AUNZ blog hop

Hello and welcome aboard ourStamp of the month Australasian Close to My Heart Blog Hop. If you have arrived here from Marguerite Svendsen-Designs by Marguerite– then you are in the right place. If you landed here by accident, no problem, please join in by following the link at the end of this post.

Today I would like to share with you this card which features June Stamp of the Month Icecream Dreams S1506  available exclusively throughout June for $27 or for just $5 when you spend $75.

20150528_172810

I started this fun card stamping up a few versions of it using just Black ink to stamp the label but this one features a Black embossing powder I have. I have also used out glitter paper and sequins.

I am going to share with you some tips for colouring the icecreams and the dogs in this post. If you want to skip ahead, your next stop in the hop is Maz. Please leave me a comment before you go.

A few variations of the same idea before they make it to a card

A few variations of the same idea before they make it to a card

You have 2 choices for colouring here and they both begin by squishing your ink pad so some ink ends up on the lid as shown. You need to choose to use either your colourless Shin Han Marker Z2469 or a paintbrush. I have a fillable paint brush commonly available from craft stores. You can also use a standard size 3 nylon brush. 20150527_215302

Add water to the ink you have transferred to your lid and you have a water colour to play with. All you need is to remember a few simple rules,

  • a softer colour requires a mix of more water, less ink – and vice versa – a strong vibrant colour will come with less water and more ink.
  • rinse between colours
  • do not over wet CTMH White cardstock – it will bleed no matter what ink you use for the image to colour if it gets too wet from either your brush or your marker.
  • Paper towel nearby is a useful blotter to remove too much water
  • turn your work so you are pulling colour toward you. You will notice I often turn my work in my videos.
  • Enjoy he pocess and fuss less. These will go on a card, not win an art award….

I believe cards need to be made with scraps and these samples have all been made with a strip scrap after last months workshop. (Look for my give away at the bottom of the post)

Brush colouring on right, clear marker colouring on left - you decide which you like.

Brush colouring on right, clear marker colouring on left – you decide which you like best

You CAN use your colourless Shin Han Marker if you are not comfortable with a brush. I have illustrated this in the video. However, I find this process too slow and tedious and much prefer to paint. I also have much more control over the colour and its intensity as you will see.I can get a much softer blend too. (However I acknowledge I am very comfortable with a paintbrush in my hand)

20150527_215332

You can also see I have stamped a number of these elements on one card. Make sure it is thoroughly dry. The next step is to give them a good coverage of Liquid Glass z769. Your liquid glass will cause bleeding if the artwork is not bone dry. (Try setting it with a heat gun). Be sure to leave it a long time. (OVERNIGHT). You can then fussy cut the items out and mount them to the card.Once cut you can ‘hide’ the white core by colouring the edge with a Shin Han Black marker.Z2446

20150528_171657

20150527_213146The full palette of colours is inspired by the palette listed for the Blossom papers. Exclusive Inks Lagoon, Blossom, Sorbet, Flaxen and Pear. I used Cocoa for the Dog. (it does look green when you add water – don’t panic, it dries brown.)

To finish off my card I have used some Teal glitter paper z1991 and Sorbet Cardstock. I have used the Coral sequins too.

Here is a Video to show you how I colour with both the pen and the brush. *embedding you tube does not want to play the game nicely with  me tonight so here is the Link to click.

June Stamp of the Month Icecream Dreams S1506  available exclusively throughout June for $27 or for just $5 when you spend $75. You can shop online right now with The Creative Heart.  or contact your consultant.

I sincerely hope I have inspired you to give brush colouring a go and compare it to the Colourless Shin Han Marker. Give each a try and see what is a good fit for you!
