AUNZ blog hop

Today I would like to share with you a creation which features Close To My Heart’s Penelope Workshop Your Way paper kit.

Penelope Workshop Your Way Kit

Penelope is pretty and playful, and offers loads of options by following the patterns provided on your consultants online store or through other ideas such as the one that follows. This one has come from pondering on what I could make from the leftovers! There is very little left now but what I do have will make pretty cards.

This is using the pieces I had left of the Penelope Workshop your way kit after making 6 doblepage layouts and 4 cards. I have a couple of embellishments left. I have used some other greem for the background from Kaleidescope - but any green would have worked.

I loved using my scraps up. I also love seeing what others do. This collections suits so many Fun filled happy smiley days. I have a fellow consultant Kristy who created this layout. I really think we need to encourage her to blog as she does some wonderful designs too.  She has incorporated the current stamp of the month in the design and focussed on using strips of her scraps.

Australasian Blog Hop Nevermore Featured Artwork

2015 Sept Nevermore ctmh aUSTRALASIANWelcome to the Australasian Blog Hop featuring artwork and Nevermore paper. If you have come from Meryl Cheetham – Mez’s Craft Room  you are in the right place.I have some artwork to share with you and the link to the next place in the hop is below. Be sure to check out all of the ideas shared here with this lovely paper collection!

For your enjoyment I have created the following page layout. I was intrigued by the orange and black and for me it speaks loudly of Harley Davison motorcycles too. You know all the Ride a Harley signs are Black and orange. Anyhow, I also have the Born to Ride Stamp Set and wanted to pair these two up. Truth be told my dad used to ride a motorbiike….when he first dated my mum and I think it was a Harley. I am sure I will find the right photos for this page one day but for now I found this awesome guy and his awesome Harley with a fab passenger seat…just my style of thing lol. If you would like to see the article I nabbed these pics from it is here. (Opens in a new window)

OK…let’s get to the artwork – not my photos but I think you get the idea – if your dad rides a Harley grab some snaps, Grab Born to Ride C 1483) and put your Nevermore grey paper to use. I have used Sunset and Black Cardstock. I also used Silver heat embossing for the Barbed wire. If I was really particular I could also have stamped and silver embossed a motorbike and fussy cut some chrome to put on the silhouette bike image. I used a stamp from One Way Borders (C1561 NLA)  for the tread and did not stress over it not being perfectly stamped!

Stamp set Born to Ride and Nevermore Paper are available from www.thecreativeheart.ctmh.com.au

No 1 Dad is from Artiste Cartridge while Go and the Sunglassses are cut with the new Artistry Cricut Cartridge. The whole layout started out being based on Pattern 5 page 15 of Make it From Your Heart Vol 2 – but I have altered the sizes a little. I did try this orange side up but preferred the grey. You could swap it around completely and use whisper for your background then the orange side would work.

I hope you are inspired and have a bike rider in your family for this idea!

Today I would like to share with you this (your creation) which features September Stamp of the Month Paper Garden available exclusively throughout September for $27 or for just $7.50 when you spend $75. S1509 Paper Garden

Paper Garden available now from http://www.thecreativeheart.ctmh.com.au

I have create my card using the pigment inks on cricut cut flowers following the cricut cut directions on the stamp set. I love the wire stamp! I stamped the whole stamp with Desert Sand from the Basics Pigment set. I have used a light and dark green for the leaf stamp (I love blending two pigment colours on a stamp this way) and stamped the flowers with Gypsy and Honey. I have daubed the edges. The wire is stamped in Slate.  The flowers were cut with the cricut Artiste Cartridge. Congratulations is stamped in Smokey Plum (just retired) and I mounted the card on Smokey Plum Base cards cut at 11 x 4 1/4. I was very excited my new Gold Foil had arrived so I was able to add that to the finished card along with triangle studs. You can’t see the foil well in this image but trust me it is not a black strip!

Happy Everything D1653 is a stamp set that is very flexible for both card making and page layouts. I am sharing with you today a layout I have done with this stamp set. Happy Everything says it all for the title and feelings about the events depicted in the photos. (Who would not be happy taking a colonial Buggy ride in a colonial city like Merida?)

I have also used the stamp set D1651 Wavy Blooms to create the flowers in the wreath. I stamped these onto drawing paper that could handle watercolour and used my watercolour with ink techniques to colour the flowers. I fussy cut these out and added some of our bling gems to the centers when I stuck them on the page.

I wanted more foliage so I scruffed through my scraps of Brushed patterned B and T and fussy cut a few more foliage sprays.(I could have stamped these too with he brushed WOTG stamp)

I did the background of the right and left panels with Bokeh Effect using colours from the flowers and Canary for some yellow. My stamping of Happy Everything is in Gypsy.

To add some more colour to the page I also used up what was left of my Brushed Compliment stickers. I had a fun time creating this page and hope you will consider making this stamp one of the purchases you make during Jump On it July. If you were to purchase both Happy Everything D1653 and Wavy Blooms D1651 you would have your choice of the Free Stamp of the month or your $6.50 Hostess reward stamp set. July SOTM Life is wonderful with Chalk It Up and Coloured Chalk Technique

To Make my elements featuring the stamp of the month I have first stamped them in White Pigment ink. I then heat set this to make sure it was all very dry. DRY Colour the white with selected colours for our Water Colour Pencil collection. This is really important. If you use wet techniques you will reactivate the with pigment ink and not end up with the desired result. Just colour in. Because we have stamped whit on Black it won’t matter if you cannot stay in the lines, but a good sharp pencil will help!

I gathered my stuff together – Blue Bird Book, Bluebird assortment, Glacier twine, Aqua Dots, Shin Han Markers, Blocks, ink,

There are 5 books to choose from altogether – Modville, Bluebird, In the Pink, Wildwood and Holiday Happenings. For this post I am sharing a page I created in the My Crush® Bluebird/Memories Combo. There are actually 2 combos for this book to choose from because there are 2 assortment packs!

To begin with I have no real plan – just a whole lot of coordinating product. I have the book, a photo, and the stamp. I have the assortment, some washi tapes, aqua dots, Shin Han Markers and Ponderosa Pine ink. I begin by deciding on possible embellishments from the assortment. Here are the steps I followed:

  • I do a little dress rehearsal with different elements to see what I like.
  • I stamp some of the flowers on the coloured card in that assortment and fussy cut them. I stamped others and the butterfly and coloured them.
  • Looking at the stickers I use a deep teel green and a fuschia coloured tab sticker back to back to create a tab and have the Gold Dot Washi and Silver washi ready as hinges to make a flap for journalling.(I am feeling pretty sentimental so lots of journal space is needed on this page. I may even write a whole lot more on the page next to this one. )
  • I begin laying down and layering the elements and decide to stamp on the page. Since I have already got some things in this book it is necessary to put my versamat under the page and right up against the coil binding so as to get a flat even surface to stamp.
  • I made the journaling pieces and did the journalling before sticking them down.
  • I did decide after I had put some things down to add a little spray mist with reinkers and that was not as successful as I hoped.

Using the versamat under the page for a stable stamping surface.

Crushbooks are fun projects for odds and sods in your photos abd memorabilia. They will reveal the quirks of you and your life providing your family an insight into you.  I have filled one Crush book almost completely, made a good start on a second and made a start on a third. I treat them very much as reflective journals and try to use them to offer my children and theirs an insight into my everyday life.

Here is the completed pagefrom today’s effort. (I must fix the watermark date!)

Icecream Dreams SOTM Australasia Blog Hop

AUNZ blog hop

Hello and welcome aboard ourStamp of the month Australasian Close to My Heart Blog Hop. If you have arrived here from Marguerite Svendsen-Designs by Marguerite– then you are in the right place. If you landed here by accident, no problem, please join in by following the link at the end of this post.

Today I would like to share with you this card which features June Stamp of the Month Icecream Dreams S1506  available exclusively throughout June for $27 or for just $5 when you spend $75.

20150528_172810

I started this fun card stamping up a few versions of it using just Black ink to stamp the label but this one features a Black embossing powder I have. I have also used out glitter paper and sequins.

I am going to share with you some tips for colouring the icecreams and the dogs in this post. If you want to skip ahead, your next stop in the hop is Maz. Please leave me a comment before you go.

A few variations of the same idea before they make it to a card

A few variations of the same idea before they make it to a card

You have 2 choices for colouring here and they both begin by squishing your ink pad so some ink ends up on the lid as shown. You need to choose to use either your colourless Shin Han Marker Z2469 or a paintbrush. I have a fillable paint brush commonly available from craft stores. You can also use a standard size 3 nylon brush. 20150527_215302

Add water to the ink you have transferred to your lid and you have a water colour to play with. All you need is to remember a few simple rules,

  • a softer colour requires a mix of more water, less ink – and vice versa – a strong vibrant colour will come with less water and more ink.
  • rinse between colours
  • do not over wet CTMH White cardstock – it will bleed no matter what ink you use for the image to colour if it gets too wet from either your brush or your marker.
  • Paper towel nearby is a useful blotter to remove too much water
  • turn your work so you are pulling colour toward you. You will notice I often turn my work in my videos.
  • Enjoy he pocess and fuss less. These will go on a card, not win an art award….

I believe cards need to be made with scraps and these samples have all been made with a strip scrap after last months workshop. (Look for my give away at the bottom of the post)

Brush colouring on right, clear marker colouring on left - you decide which you like.

Brush colouring on right, clear marker colouring on left – you decide which you like best

You CAN use your colourless Shin Han Marker if you are not comfortable with a brush. I have illustrated this in the video. However, I find this process too slow and tedious and much prefer to paint. I also have much more control over the colour and its intensity as you will see.I can get a much softer blend too. (However I acknowledge I am very comfortable with a paintbrush in my hand)

20150527_215332

You can also see I have stamped a number of these elements on one card. Make sure it is thoroughly dry. The next step is to give them a good coverage of Liquid Glass z769. Your liquid glass will cause bleeding if the artwork is not bone dry. (Try setting it with a heat gun). Be sure to leave it a long time. (OVERNIGHT). You can then fussy cut the items out and mount them to the card.Once cut you can ‘hide’ the white core by colouring the edge with a Shin Han Black marker.Z2446

20150528_171657

20150527_213146The full palette of colours is inspired by the palette listed for the Blossom papers. Exclusive Inks Lagoon, Blossom, Sorbet, Flaxen and Pear. I used Cocoa for the Dog. (it does look green when you add water – don’t panic, it dries brown.)

To finish off my card I have used some Teal glitter paper z1991 and Sorbet Cardstock. I have used the Coral sequins too.

Here is a Video to show you how I colour with both the pen and the brush. *embedding you tube does not want to play the game nicely with  me tonight so here is the Link to click.

June Stamp of the Month Icecream Dreams S1506  available exclusively throughout June for $27 or for just $5 when you spend $75. You can shop online right now with The Creative Heart.  or contact your consultant.

I sincerely hope I have inspired you to give brush colouring a go and compare it to the Colourless Shin Han Marker. Give each a try and see what is a good fit for you!
