If you came from Linda’s Blog” then you’re on the right track!

Z is for…

ZEBRA! Who doesn’t mind the occasional bit of Big Bold Zebra print? Did you know we here at Close To My Heart have some of that? We do – right there in the Bluebird My Crush book! I decided this would be my Z project. I could have created a photo op of me catching some well earned ZZzzs but being the only one living in my home that would not be possible. There are no Zebra’s here abouts for me to photograph either. I did think of doing a Z sampler with my alpha stamps but I really wanted to work with the other side of Zebra for me. Besides, this is a Z product as it has the product code Z1856!

Big Ideas on Zebra Print

Big Ideas on Zebra Print

Now I suppose you know about Zebra stripes – they are all unique. They may look the same, but they are not. Their stripes are like fingerprints in humans, giving them loads of individuality. Therefore Zebra striped patterns on paper yell Big, Bold, Individual. Be yourself, Live Out Loud and Big Ideas are all titles that spoke to me when pondering this page.

Here is a closer look at the Big Ideas page

Here is a closer look at the Big Ideas page

I got thinking what would be my big, individual hopes and dreams for 2014 and I kept coming back to travel. For some this is a no-brainer but for me it is BIG because I want to go to places I have only dreamed about an dismiss as un-achievable as quickly as an idea of doing so enters my head.  For me these places are distant, exotic, and not in my current budget in fiscal terms.

BUT, if I give myself permission to dream big and bold I just may get to one of these destinations some time before I am not too much older. The travel theme took hold of this page as a result of giving myself permission. I created a page of titles and symbols, made it into a pocket and the tag has the dream list.  I have even put the Eiffel Tower on this page – one of the most renown symbols of both travel and big ideas!

The note paper page is made into a pocket. I used Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge  Accent 1 p 47 (6 inches)  for this and cut it with Kraft paper. Big Ideas p 42,  Live Out Loud  p 44 and Be Yourself  p41 come from the Art Booking cartridge. The paper plane, it’s track and the female traveller are all stamps on the ‘On Holiday’ Stamp Set (C1572) . I have used Black cardstock and pigment ink for these elements. The black ribbon in the tag is from my stash.

How to load and brush on some pigment for a little smudge effect.

How to load and brush on some pigment for a little smudge effect.

I decided to scruff the plain kraft background with a little almost bold smudging. To Do this I loaded an old paint brush with the pigment ink and swept the page vertically and horizontally with light strokes. It was fun to have a paint brush in my hands again!

On the page opposite I used the 10 Things (Artbooking again) to compliment my Big Ideas, but since the prompt on the page says these are some of my favourite things, that is what I have listed. I used the white chalk marker to write on the black cardstock.

Oh…and where do I want to go to? Take a peek at the start of the list!

Dreaming of travel!

I love the opportunity the My Crush books give us to just journal and reflect, and leave a legacy for those who follow us with an insight into our hopes and dreams as well as what we liked to do and what we have achieved. Everything ABC’s Blog Hop Y

Y? Why?

abc bloghop

Welcome to the Everything ABC’s Blog Hop!    For this hop we will be featuring the letter Y. This may be the name

of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment. Whatever the crafter has chosen as their # element will be featured in their post.

If you came from “Shelly Nemitz – Just One Piece”  then you’re on the right track!

Why? What?  When? Where? Wh0?

It is all about the journalling isn’t it? When I am confronted by the task of posting for ‘y’ all I can think of is WHY? Why do we do this thing called scapbooking?

Those of us who scrapbook do so because we believe that while a picture make speak a story of a thousand words, unless we take some time to put those photos down in a scrapbook album AND  journal along with the all important details of the event that took place there is little point in having those photos printed, and even less in just having them sit there in an electronic folder  file and backed up on disks in our electronic devices. Scraboking is not just about getting inky and creative, it has a very strong core purpose.

This is our primary WHY. A photo of great grandma tells us little about who she is and what she did. When I am a great grandma I want my family to be able to how each other bits of my story by sharing my scrapbooks and my crush journals. It is because of this Y we add the 5W’s – who, when, where, what and why. We are story tellers and our why is the beginning of our journalling process. Think about why we took the photo? Why do we want to share it? Why does it matter? When you think about these why questions you will perhaps be like me and running out of room for journalling on a page and have journal cards getting all squished near the end!

BUT there is more to my Why….

I get to PLAY! Do you know how therpeutic it is for a Fifty Year old to play? My scrapbooking is a central part of my relaxation and downtime. I don’t do TV couch potato style. I have to be doing something! Sometimes it is sewing but more often in is scrapbooking, stamping and papercraft. When I am fully engaged in this activity the daily stressors of life nick off and my inner child comes out to play. She does need some nurturing you know!

Not only do I get to play,  I get to form and strengthen new friendships as like mindedness connects us in workshops, conventions, retreats,  playdays and now social media too. I am making new friends regularly. I am always inspired by the work of others. I am encouraged and supported by those same people. A scrappy family therefore adds significantly to my Y. Since becoming a CTMH consultant I am feeling the pleasure of an extended family whose value is beyond measure. CTMH family support, encourage, applaud, reward and cheer me on. How awesome is that!

So for Y, let me share with you today one of the pages that illustrates my Y! This page is journalled! Fair dinkum, it is. Imagine picking up one of these pages 50 years from now…what questions would there be? Where are the answers? Then there is the fun I had making the pages – lots of play!

For Always page inspired by the 'magic' of interactive pages and lots of time to play.

If you look tot he left there is a cascade of photos on a movable piece – with journalling and another photo hidden away. It took me a bit to work it out but I did it! It is featured on page 44-47 of the fabulous book Magic! I am getting so much out of this $20 gem.  Ok…there is another piece of  journalling.

As for other techniques on this page you may notice the background stamping. I have used the handwriting square from the stamp set universal backgrounds. I have then overstamped randomly the love doily stamp. All of this was done with slate on Champagne cardstock. (BTW This looks awesome when done with Chocolate on Goldrush!)  The bling adds a nice bit of sprarkle and the ribbon from my sewing room stash adds a final touch. The paper is from For Always WOTG.

So there you have as good as I could manage for a ‘Y’ page at short notice since I joined the ABC blog hop so late and did not plan ahead. Actually, it is nice to be a bit creative with a letter and turn the post into something else completely! Here I was able to use a page I finished about a month ago to illustrate my point of Y 🙂

CTMH Stamps of the Month Australasian Blog Hop December

Hello and welcome aboard the  Australasian Close to My Heart Stamp of the Month Blog Hop. If you have arrived here from  Patrica’s Blog then you are in the right place. If you landed here by accident, no problem, please join in by following the link at the end of this post.

Today I would like to share with you this gorgeous Stamp of the Month Special Care.

Special Care Stamp of the month. This stamp is yours with any $75 purchase made in December with your CTMH consultant.

Special Care Stamp of the month. This stamp is yours with any $75 purchase made in December with your CTMH consultant.

I was thinking of all sorts of things I could do with this. My immediate reaction was all things Victorian, but I didn’t have photos that would suit that. I then thought of cards and decided yes cards for the unwell, for people just having a tough time, and those in need of love, support and encouragement this stamp would work. I also thought of babies. I can visualise all sorts of baby pages using this Special Care stamp set because all babies do need to be handled with care.

So what could I do that was inspiring and about special care? My babies are long grown up and I have already scrapped my Grandson as a new born. I then though of my other baby, Mr Macey! Mr Macey was given to me by my mother for my 5oth birthday and when I first got him he was little more in size than the palm of my hand. I have some of those cute puppy photos, I have the Babyckes WOTG kit, so why not? He is my baby right?

Before we go further please let me apologise for the incomplete artwork to follow. My order is still in transit (thanks Aus Post!) So you need to put your imagination on! Here is a challenge – which of the stamps from the stampset would you use on these pages?

This is Mr Macey as a puppy.

This page is done using scraps and leftovers after completing the babycakes WOTG pages. I have also used the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge alphabet cut at 2 inches for the titls. All this page needs now is a tag from Special Care. The layout is inspired by the Bottom Border title one on page 35 of Reflections Scrapbook program.

Here Miss Maggie is a bit put out by the presence of mr Macey in her bed!

To make this page I have used the negative space leftover from cutting the large shape from the WOTG kit page layout. I used Sunset to ink the edges and have propped it up with 3D foam tape. The photo was not all that large but supporting it with a splash of colour from scraps has worked well. All it needs is the addition of Special Care!

Another page I have done is this one. I had to dip into my supplies by this time and wanted to replicate patchwork and sewing (another topic choice for this stamp set.) I took the idea from the Reflections scrapbook program book p65 but my pieces didn’t quite fit the square. The last 1/2 inch was fixed by using the stitch guide on the ruler and grabbing some of my embroidery floss to create the zig zag border on the left. I added stitch lines roughly by hand to all the B and T papers  – I never get my quilting lines straight or even so the manner in which these are done reflects that! The texture of the jute ribbon (from my stash) adds an extra dimension all ready and waiting for….a title or tag from Special care!

I have used the following products in this design.

Babycakes WOTG kit  G1068 NB This is now in our retiring items list in our online stores. That is where you will find it. Alternative to the whole kit is the paper packet – X7173B

xoxoxoxoxox I love you!

X….what can we do with X in the spirit of the ABC’s blog hop? Love and kisses that is what!

For you today I am sharing the wonderful papers and stamps from For Always WOTG kit. I love the paper design as it goes with everything including bright red and luscious purple. I have been scrapping photos from my Red Hat themed 50th birthday with this kit and I am very pleased with how the pages turned out. I have also done some fabulous cards. Let’s get on with the picture show featuring the one stamp xoxoxoxoxo from the stamp set in this kit!

On this page the xoxo stamp is used as one of the borders. I loved these guys and how they contributed to the fun of the party.

Once you have been scrapping with a kit you end up with scraps. A useful way to use these is to make cards like these shown below. (Card bases have come from local supply stores while I wait eagerly the arrival of the full range of CTMH cards and envelopes to stamp on!)

I have never been much of a card maker but now I have stamps, scraps and the awesome card making idea books ‘Orginals’ and ‘Wishes’ I am all set.  All my scraps can be put to good use with the ideas in these awesome books. There are no really clever tricks or technoques in the above items. The sanded edges of the Cranberry card stock is something we can do unique to the fabulous white core cardstock of CTMH which I love!

PS…This WOTG lit is nearing the end of its time with CTMH so be sure to grab yours from your consultant before they are gone!
