It explodes!

I have really enjoyed the freedom to be creative with my scrapbooking with many thanks to Close To My Heart products and How To Program books. I have taken ideas for this page from Magic – which is all about interactive pages and Reflections which came in the consultant kit. The following page makes use of techniques explained in Magic for slicing openings in the Memory Protectors so the pages truly can be interactive. I love the quality of these memory protectors!

Double page layout with a hidden tag and an explosion box

Double page layout with a hidden tag and an explosion box

As you can see there are two places for interactivity here. One is a little tag and the other is what is a variation of an explosion box. It has no lid, but it does open up

The tag gave me the opportunity to slip in the surprise photo – a second bottle of Moet! The photo didn’t quite fit on the layout about the wonderful presents I got so this was a good way to include it. I do have way too many photos to pick from and it is difficult to choose just a few. I hope i am not alone in this!

A second photo attached to a tag hidden behind the first

A second photo attached to a tag hidden behind the first

The right hand page is the really fun one – it looks like a gift on the page. When you unwind the string holding it closed you get a whole lot more – and plenty of journalling space too. There clearly was a story to tell here as I had 3 parcels to unwrap and two very eager nephews ensuring I got all the help I needed.

So let’s unwind this and take a peek inside!

So there you have the exploding gift. This was the easy bit – the tricky bit is getting the pages into Memory Protectors in such a way your reader can interact with them. The quality of CTMH Memory Protectors allows for a very precise cut and the strength in them means they won’t give way in a hurry. By following the instructions for piercing and slicing in Magic I have an excellent reult.  Here is how the pages look inserted into the sleeves.

All sleeved up

I created the exploding box with a piece of 12 x 12 Ruby card stock. I scored it twice at 4 and 8 inches both horizontally and vertically then trimmed out the corners. Using my bone folder I made sure the folds were crisp. the photos were cut to fit at 3.5 inches square, as was the journalling card. Given the layout is bright red and uses For Always paper, plain white was too stark for the journaling. To bring it into line with the colours I sponged the edges and a little more with Desert Sand ink. This colour is present on the black and white prints giving them the look of antiquity so the Desert Sand worked well. The titles were cut with my Cricut machine and Artiste Cricut cartridge using CTMH Giltter paper.

Cricut Tip! I have learned that with glitter paper you need to have either a nice new blade, just for this job – and then keep it only for the glitter paper. Use a depth of 6 and after a few sheets you may find the need to cut 2-3 times before getting through – or replacing the blade. Fortunately I will not need to bling up each page I do as I would be hard pressed to keep up with blades. Cutting Glitter paper with the Cricut will be a sometimes thing for me!

The little red rose and yellow hat pins come in the For Always Workshop on the go kit.

If you would like any of these products please hop on over to my online store. You can order any time for direct delivery to you if you are in Australia. If you live in my region (Sunraysia and Malle) why not come along to a play day and learn how to make a page like this yourself or come along to one of my paper crafting nights. We can make and exploding box like this as a card, or even make one with a lid and several layers. (A truly exploding box!)  Contact me for more details about my classes nenifoofer@gmail.com

I would love your feedback on this and other pages I share with you. What would you like to see explored and shred here on the blog? Your comments are very welcome! I would love to hear from you.

Having fun with Artbooking

Have you discovered the joy of Artbooking? I have and I am loving it! It is playful, random and fun!

Artbooking is scrapbooking, journaling and being creative and arty all rolled into one. You make the book, you create the embellishments (and add from your stash) and your very best friend is the Cricut Artbooking cartridge by CTMH!

It has awesome pre-designed shapes in a number of sizes so you can create a journal of photos and memories in a number of ways. I still see myself very much a beginner in all this but I wanted to share with you what I have done so far with a 3 ring Kraft folder, my Artbooking cartridge, and papers from my stash. Most of this has been created with cardstock and papers from the Chantilly paper pack.

The cover made with a frame from the Artbooking Cartridge.

The cover made with a frame from the Artbooking Cartridge.

So I have the Cricut ExpressionII- and the CTMH Artbooking Cartridge collection which includes precut chipboard shapes and three stamp sets- and a project with a purpose. This little journal is going to record my journey as Carer for my parents. The journalling is what will really matter and I won’t be sharing those pages. However, I have made a start with some photos of my parents, and the family they brought into being. I explored a few things on the cartridge and got my head around ‘real dial’ size and other such matters. These page elements all had to be done at the right size so the pre cut holes line up with the rings.

Ok – so this is what it all looks like so far.

This is the title page - not as wide as some of the other pages but I actually like that they stick out.

I am enjoying the stamps that came with the collection too! Here are the following pages – with tabs and lacy edges and more!

I love the overlays in the Artbooking cartridge – the hexagons and lattice above can be made to fit any page and I have seen awesome artwork done with these on scrapbook pages too.

These are blank – still to be filled with photos and love. I did these just because I wanted to see how they cut! In future I will have a bit of a plan for each page I do. I may also replicate the many ideas shared by CTMH on the Artbooking Made Easy series on You Tube. They have some awesome ideas and the ongoing series is an inspiration to us all!

The Country Road Show – Part1

This is a totally unabashed plug for a fabulous event coming to Mildura. It is the

Close To My Heart Country Road Show!

(applause…louder!!!)

We country folk live over 4 hours drive from the nearest capital city (Adelaide) and even more the capital of our own state (Melbourne). Often feel we miss out simply because there are awesome things going on in the cities that we just cannot get to. We may not have the time, the fuel money or family needs may come first, preventing us from attending some wonderful events. This is true of  many major events, but for the scrapbookers, stampers and cardmakers in Sunraysia it is particularly so as we rarely get the opportunity to go to workshop with well known and respected representatives of a company. So

I AM EXCITED!

The Sunraysia consultants from Jen’s Creative Hearts Team are very pleased to be hosting Close To My Heart Sr Executive Director Diane Lampert in town on Monday 21st October for a make and take fest!

Consultants Amy Langford, Myself and Diane Lampert at Creative Kickoff in Melbourne. We look forward to Diane Joining us in Mildura for a fabulous creative play session.

Consultants Amy Langford, myself and Diane Lampert at Creative Kickoff in Melbourne. We look forward to Diane joining us in Mildura for a fabulous creative play session.

I have absolutely no idea what she has in store for us but that doesn’t matter – I know it will be good because of all the noise and back chatter about how awesome events have been around other major centres! Everyone who has been to one of these events has great things to say about the product, the projects and the awesome business opportunity that is provided by Close To My Heart here in Australia.

There will be two sessions available for attendees, one at 2 pm and one at 7 pm. The session is $10 and attendees will go home with three make and take projects. In between sessions the venue, Sunraysia Masonic Centre, is available for those who wish to give themselves some ‘me’ time, or ‘play time’ to bring along their current projects and get some of them completed. Dig in for the day along with the consultant in attendance and get some projects done.

If you are from the Sunraysia and mallee region and are excited can you let me know? Pop in a comment below. I would love to have some feedback!

For more details and information complete the form below or jump on over to my Facebook Event page and book your ticket!  I would love to have you come along and join us on this awesome day!

Part 2 of this post will of course be…the report – with lots of photos!

I flipped it and I flapped it….

Have you ever tried to cram what realistically would be more photos than you can fit on one page?

Have you had a dozen or more photos, all of similar moments, all part of an important story and you just cannot bare to leave any out yet they will not all fit on a double page spread without making it all look awful?

Well that was me this week. I had 17 photos, all taken of me from the beginning through to the end of the night of my 50th dancing. It was an awesome night for me and my live musician was playing some great songs. I just had to put my dancing shoes to use. The snaps are fabulous – from me standing with hands on hips waiting for it all to begin to me dancing the night away ( and gradually looking more disheveled as the night wore on!)

So I had a problem.  How do you fit 17 photos on one page?

Remember little Peter Rabbit who had that annoying little problem of a ‘fly upon his nose’? He flipped it and he flapped and the fly flew away. (I hope you are singing this now! I was when I went to bed after doing this page)

Ok. So 17 photos is a problem.  Flip flaps are the answer! What do you think of this?

a stack of photos all connected thanks to Flip Flaps

a stack of photos all connected thanks to Flip Flaps

There are 17 photos on this double page spread!  You cannot ‘see’ them but there are two stacks of photos using flip flaps on the right hand page. The photos are ordered  so they illustrate my changing mood from cheeky, to show off, to totally absorbed in a song and singing it, swinging it, and looking rather disorderly by the end of it all.

You can flip through and see all my moves!

The pages completed are now slid into the protectors. A careully performed surgical slit allows the flip flaps to sit on the outside.

The pages completed are now slid into the protectors.

A carefully performed surgical slit allows the flip flaps to sit on the outside. I am so pleased with how this turned out and I love that Close To My Heart not only have flip flaps, but they also have even more ideas for including extra photos and journaling on a page in the book Magic by Jeanette Lynton. I followed the page layout ‘Out of the hat’ (appropriate title given the red hat theme) from this book on page 83. The instructions for cutting slits into page protectors are in the book and while I did hold my breath doing this the outcome is awesome.

Flip Flaps come in many sizes, and allow us to make much more of a page and just a 12 x 12 space.

I decided to work on another example. There was a whole lot of singing and dancing going on. In the second example flaps go 3 ways on two pages which extends the whole story of the reveling of the crowd and the awesome performance of my brother as primary dance partner for everyone.

These two pages are the dabce pages. What you see here is the beginning. They need more decoration. I am waiting on a new stamp with music nots on it do the striking white will all get stamped and will not stand out so much.

Ta Da!!! Check out all these photos and journaling once you open it up.

Not only was it a fun night, it has also been fun to scrap those photos flipping and a flapping to get them all looking great over a few pages of my album.

Releasing the inner child with You Are My Happy!

I believe that we can all recall days of being totally absorbed by our colouring in days. Do You? How long has it been since you sat in front of a set of markers, a black outline and coloured in? Did you realise it could be totally relaxing?? I categorically believe it is not only relaxing but also very therapeutic. I am about to show you what I achieved on one of the most relaxing Saturday afternoons I have had for some time.

So, let’s get started. First of all I have received my National Stamping Month Stamp Set. This cute set of 3 sheets valued at $64 is yours for just $15 with every $75 spent on scrapping, stamping and paper supplies with Close To My Heart throughout National Stamping Month right now! (You have Two weeks left!)  You Are My Happy has a really cute lettering set including upper and lower cases and numbers. Perfect!  There are some gorgeous sayings and titles on one of the sheets and all of this is complemented by a superb range of motifs that can be used for pretty much any occasion. I have played with the sun, the gift box, one of the flowers and my favourite one, the butterfly so far.

See for yourself just what is in this set.

I didn’t quite know where to start but had a request for a birthday card, I combined the gift and used the lettering along with stamps from Washi Wonder, (an exclusive set for gathering hosts) to come up with this piece. I do not think it is my most awesome piece of artwork but I think a 9 year old will appreciate it! I love sets like Washi Wonder because i can just sit and stamp all sorts of pieces and colours from my scrap box and set them aside for use on a card or page. This is fast, easy washi with no need for rolls and rolls of Washi tape. My Washi Wander makes the Washi tape look very portable too.

Ok, the card was done and it is time to play. I decided to let my inner child loose on colouring in. I have a small palette of CTMH Alcohol Markers. These are FABULOUS! I truly did feel like a child pulling them out today and using the brush tip of a variety of colours. I stamped and coloured the butterfly stamp several different ways. It was relaxing, none of the woes of life interfered. The hardest decision was what colour to try next!

Colouring in - so child like, so relaxing!

Colouring in – so child like, so relaxing!

I needed flowers to go with the butterflies so I cut the coordinating flower with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I did a whole sheet! I stamped about a dozen these in black ink ready to colour. I became an expert in positioning the clear stamp over the precut image, lining it up nicely. (Yes I misjudged a few times too!) The trick was to sit right up over the block to line it up on the cutout. because i was working with white card, the black background of the Versamat made this step very easy.

I decided, since my range of inks is still small, to use pigment inks applied with sponge daubers to add colour – and then finished off the details with Alcohol Markers. I added Liquid Glass to the butterfly wings, dug through my scraps and stamps to make titles and find colourful mounting pieces, opened my Hollyhock Zipper lace embellishment and I finished up with a design I am quite pleased with.  To add foliage I used the little leaf spray from the Chantilly WOTG kit. To ensure the butterflies still had feelers, I stamped a plain outline to the card before mounting the butterfly body with 3D foam tape.

Flowers, butterflies. lace and sentiment. A group of cards that came together quickly after the colouring was done.

Flowers, butterflies. lace and sentiment. A group of cards that came together quickly after the colouring was done.

I now have quite a number of cards ready to give my gathering hosts, friends and family, made with the heart of my inner child. I have been totally absorbed in colouring in and loved it. If you would like to give it a try get your pens and stamps out and give it a go. If you do not yet have supplies, take the links to the products and shop for your ‘You Are My Happy’ stamp set. You can even be the recipient of one of my cards by being the host of a gathering. You do not need to live near me – just live in Australia. We can use the magic of the internet to manage your gathering and get you your host rewards including the Washi Wonder stamp set!

Nurture your inner child, She wants to play! Grab your stuff and do some colouring – it is very therapeutic because you tune the world out and finish up with hand made heart felt gifts to give to others!

Go On…

I dare you!

You are special! Have a gathering and find out how special!

Have you ever balked at the idea of hosting a direct selling anything? Be honest….I have! Especially when most of the products are priced upward of $50. It is out of the reach of most people I know to buy up big and even harder if you are the consultant trying to help the host get her rewards when they need 2 bookings to qualify, As the host you fear there may not be any friends kind enough to support you to achieve your $350 plus 2 host bookings in order to gain anything from making the effort to invite people, make supper and try and have a fun time.

Close to My Heart IS DIFFERENT. You are special. We want you to feel special and successful! They make us as consultants feel special too. Your host rewards begin with sales of $200 allowing you $30 to spend. The next step is $50 to spend plus a half price item for just a $300 total in sales. It goes up from there and you can see just how much you can be rewarded by looking at the Host reward guide on page 2 of the product launch guide . When you do look, you will notice the dreaded number of bookings is not there ! No need to con a friend into hosting a party they do not really want! You can succeed without extracting a promise from a friend to book forward for you!

The other thing you will notice is how generous the rewards become as sales go up! You are treated with great generosity for gathering with CTMH!

You are also a person of privilege when you host a CTMH gathering. You have access to exclusive stamp sets, which is perfect if you paper craft, scrapbook or make cards. You can see the full range on the 3rd and 4th pages of the product launch guide – and please note the pricing. Imagine getting these for half their usual price with your host reward money! It certainly does make your reward dollars go further!

My favourite is Washi Wonder. I do not need hundreds of rolls of washi tape – I can stamp a large number of tape designs in 40 different colours and even more with specific stamping techniques!

And there is more! As a gathering host you have the choice about what sort of gathering will suit you and your friends. I can accommodate you with a hands on scrapbook page, a card, or another project. Your friends won’t be sitting around listening to the consultant talk endlessly about the benfits, features and prices of a product and walk the catalogue – we get engaged and interact with the products. Hands On! We play with the products, explore the possibilities and have fun along the way!

If you prefer not to have anyone over, but wish to have a virtual or catalogue gathering and collect orders you can do this too! We have an EZ invite system that lets you take charge electronically inviting people to shop for your event! And the rewards are the same!

How easy it is to be rewarded and gain those favourite items at half price. I am betting every one of you who own a Cricut Cutting machine would be wanting to get that Cricut collection with your 50% off item credit!

One final note about the advantages of being a host – if you become a consultant – you get ALL THESE ADVANTAGES and you also get the consultant price on all the goodies you order! If you do not yet have a Cricut you can also get that at a very special low price too! That my friends makes being a consultant AWESOME for crafters like me.

I was hopeful CTMH would be a great company for us when we lost what was. I am stunned at how generous this company is with both Hosts and Consultants and invite you to contact me now to get your gathering orgainsed or your consultant kit ordered!
